Presidential term, John Calhoun resigned
the Vice Presidency and became a US Senator.
39 Spiro Agnew As Governor of Maryland, Agnew had taken kickbacks from contractors and
did not
report this “income” on his tax returns. In order to evade a court trial
and possible
imprisonment for tax evasion, Agnew pleaded “nolo contendre”
(no contest”) and resigned as
Vice
President.
